This is, perhaps, my favorite part of the story so far -- the continuations people create for themselves. It is certainly possible that a decade down the road, if Uhura and Spock break it off, something could happen between Jim and this Spock. But would Jim really want that? Would it be right to his memories of his Spock, to exchange them for new ones with, essentially, a different person?
